With a mission to transform natural resources into prosperity and sustainable development, Vale is a global mining company with headquarters in Brazil. We are leaders in the production of iron ore and the second largest producer of nickel.
Forty years ago, the first shipment of our company's iron ore was delivered to the Chinese market. In Brazil, the sale was considered a milestone; after all, the two countries had not yet re-established diplomatic relations, which had been broken off for more than 20 years. Since the first shipment, this partnership has grown ever stronger.

In the early 1980s, nearly 80% of the Chinese population lived in rural areas, while today more than half live in cities. This is the result of an urbanization policy promoted by the government, which led to an increase in the country's iron ore consumption.
